Driver on the Wing’s Weather for Chelsea v Man Utd (C/Cup)

I have ranted on many occasions, to no avail, about some choices of replica kit. There is, however, one step beyond which no one, not even the most sartorially challenged lovers of synthetic fabrics can go. To do so would ensure the opprobrium of all decent people and their abandonment by their families.

Do not visit www.rashop.co.uk. There is nothing there that you could possibly want to buy. Anyone who wants to dress in a replica referee’s kit is disturbed. Even for Halloween that is beyond the bar. A Jimmy Savile tracksuit and medallion is less likely to incur the wrath of passing strangers (indeed, on Saturday I saw two revellers dressed as the disgraced and dead disc jockey from Leeds.) If you must peek at that website (and only after you have turned on the Private Browsing function of your browser) don’t look at the section for casual wear.

The idea of dressing as an off duty Mark Halsey or Mark Clatttenburg wannabe is too much to contemplate.

Simply don’t do it. It is wrong, morally, intellectually, aesthetically and spiritually.

Don’t do it, particularly before Wednesday’s game as we can be sure that the FA will want to punish Chelsea for the abuses committed against the club and its players and for complaining about them.

On Sunday I saw an outrageous number of half and half scarves for sale before the game,. Presumably the vendors had double stocked with the thought of two games in a week although, the scarves appear to have dates on them and so either tourists will be buying out of date scarves or, more hopefully, scarves will be left unsold.

The sight of two idiots before the game standing by the pitch in the West Lower having their photograph taken with a half and half scarf stretched between them, upside down,  was an unpleasant one. No need to draw further attention to your stupidity.

Perhaps they should make black and red half and half scarves, for ManU and their referee.

Sunday saw the majority of Chelsea supporters showing the style for which they are known. In adversity, we sang louder and backed a tremendous performance by our team. A few allowed the injustice of the situation and the provocation of the ManU players to get to them. This is not stylish. Don’t throw things. That is what they want you to do. Rise above their pettiness.

Despite all the hype for Wednesday’s game, there will still be some weather to contend with.  Not the spectacular weather that is promised in the north east of the US but weather nonetheless.

A mild evening with showers. 11 degrees tops falling to 6 degrees. Strongish winds from the south south west which may be as strong as 18 mph but reducing as the evening wears on.

Saturday’s cold snap was brought about by a strong northerly wind. When the wind change to the west, it warmed up to the present mild conditions and we can expect milder wet weather over the next few days but with the prospect of colder temperatures at the weekend and into next week.

Probably a good idea to wear a coat or jacket. Preferably waterproof. If wearing a coat, please ensure that it is not covering your replica referee’s kit or, even worse, your referee’s casual wear.

Remember, you are Chelsea and Chelsea is style.
