Germany were the pre season favourites to win this tournament, but although they and other teams had showed moments of brilliance, Spain had been the team that had been the most consistent. 

Before the game even began there were rumours that the talismanic Ballack was out with a calf injury, which would have been a major blow.

Now this game was more like it! Germany didn’t go into this game as favourites, the previous two group stage games they only just edged the win, but sometimes the big games get the big performances and this game was win or bust for teams.

Not much to say about this game.  You can argue that France were unlucky but, even with a fit Ribery and 11 players on the pitch, I don't think it would have changed the result.
